Are you a Unique Blogger?

Are you a Unique Blogger?

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but there are an awful lot of blogs about…400million English written as of December 2010.  So even though your aunt Edith thinks you are super cool and a genius for having one, you are going to have to be doing something unique to stand out from the crowd.

Being unique is difficult to achieve and it’s even harder to teach someone how to be unique, but I thought you might enjoy a few tips on how you can start your search for search for uniqueness.

  • Personality – Your personality is everything, try to not conform to the norm.  Go against everything your English Teachers taught you, be different, make people laugh through your writing, do what makes you happy and others will think you are great too.  Seriously…sounds simple, but being Authentic is King!
  • What’s your Niche? - There are lots of Social Media and Internet Marketing blogs about.  There is nothing wrong with this, but if you are going to go down this route, you might want to have a Unique Selling Point. If you do happen to have a crazy past-time, skill or gift, why not shout about it and give your blog the edge.
  • Design – If you are serious about being a success blogger, you might want to invest in some custom designed graphics.  There’s some great services out-there at reasonable prices.  I recommend any of the following.
  • Be a Character – If you think you can pull it off, why not go one step further and build a whole character around your niche for your blog.  There are lots of great examples out there of people who have been successful doing this.
  • Creativity is Key – I’ve said this in previous posts and the fact still remains.  Readers have short attention spans and get bored of bland text on the page, mix up your posts with images, videos, spoken audio or music.
  • Well Researched – There are lots of bloggers who do short sharp and focused blogs giving personal opinions and past experience, this is great and there is nothing wrong with this, but some of the most valued and well respected bloggers are those that go that extra mile. Who evaluate products and services in detail and who are not afraid to go against the grain.  Consider doing some of these types of posts every now and again and you will gain dedicated readers for life.
  • Community Friendly – The whole point of a blog, is that its interactive and community focused, but many bloggers over look this.  When bloggers first start out, they eagerly await that first comment on their post and then when it happens forget to interact and build relationships with their readers.  Make your blog as easy as possible for readers to subscribe, comment, syndicate, contact you, add value and ask questions.
  • It’s all in the Giving – Being a blogger is one thing, but being a real blogger is helping other bloggers to succeed.  Reading other peoples blogs, will give you inspiration and ideas, it will help build your credibility in your niche and will make you stand out.  One of the best ways to contribute to other bloggers is join a Tribe, like TSA Mastery.

Hope you found this post useful, let me know your methods for making yourself more unique and what you have found successful.

Yours in Success,

Great post and super reminders Beth! It’s so true about needing to be ALL of these things - unique, show your personality, DON’T conform … I think every blogger struggles with these things every now and then. Stay true to you, and your followers will come!!

    Hi Beth,

    Powerful tips here.

Being an individual separates the successful bloggers from the rest. We each have unique talents that were meant to be expressed fully. When you are simply being you, you’ll be the best at what you do, be it blogging or any endeavor.

The “Be a character” piece of advice is super. Inject your personality into your blog. Be You, and don’t be afraid to share your personality with the world.

Thanks for sharing your insight and have a Happy New Year :)

    Hey Beth

Useful indeed. You hit some pretty good points there. Always trying to impress and over deliver to your Fan base of eager readers. Seems to me that being unique and unoriginal is the component to getting some much needed recognition around here.Strange huh… Well like you said I guess we just have to throw away everything that we have learned for the past 12 years and break the rules of learning. If there was anything that may have come to use in school was Math, Reading, & Writing. Love this post Beth, very Unique and educational. Thanks for Sharing and Happy New Year!

My favorite out of all these great tips is Personality. It is insanely difficult to be unique in anything from a business standpoint. If you succeed, copycats will soon be doing the same thing. Then all you can say is “I was first!”

We each have our own unique personality though. What’s even better? The parts of our personality that we have in common with our readers is what draw them to us. And, of course, the parts that are different readers appreciate.

For example, I would never make a video about cleaning my daughter’s room wearing a silly thing on my head. But Beth Hewitt would. And it’s still my favorite post ever.

    Hi Beth,

You provide excellent information about blogging.

This is especially helpful for anyone who has lost their way.

I especially like to take my posts another step further when I include current events and entertainment from movies & TV, keeps my audience guessing on where I am going with the topic.

My niche is something I constantly play with, my friend Josh said to me recently that my blog is like a painting, you can always change it up and improve in certain places. Sort of like changing topics within my blog.

Research is key, taking it further by going to the library and really diving into your topic. Not just taking notes from an Ezinearticle.

Being part of a group like TSA takes it to the next level because of the different personalities you connect with on a more personal level.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Beth,
You have listed so many important aspects of creating a good blog. My favorite is “research.” I love reading a blog that teaches me something that perhaps I do not have time to spend learning about, but it is explained so clearly and succinctly by someone who has taken the time to do the research. To me that is true giving.
My other favorite is that “it’s all in the giving.” It is about writing blogs of value to others (not just marketing your product or your opt in offer) but offering something of value and then also commenting on other people’s blogs and syndicating other people’s work. I highly recommend http://www.TSAMastery.com

    Hi Beth,

Wonderful advice here that any successful blogger would be wise to heed.

Your mention of being creative is a key concept to keep in mind. Express yourself to make the most of your life and improve the lives of others.

You can do the most for others by stressing your individuality. In a world of people who fear criticism you need to leave behind self-conscious habits but the end result of running an informative and entertaining blog is well worth it.

Thanks for sharing your insight Beth.

    Fascinating read, goddess Beth.

And I’m ever so chuffed that I do do quite a few of the points naturally. Like being wildly eccentric, writing in my own unique voice and generally being that little bit ‘too much’ that brings people back to visit me.

But there are things here that I can definitely integrate into my blogging career.
Things like tidying up my design and narrowing my niche even further.

I’ve been blogging for a long time, but I’m relatively new to blogging for business purposes. Just a few short months ago, I felt inadequate because I thought my blog was inferior to so many others. It was a blessed relief to learn that I my blog doesn’t HAVE to be “like everyone else’s”… that I can be myself, and do what I’ve always done… share my life experiences and what I’ve learned from them. It applies just as much to network marketing and mentoring, as it does in other areas.
