The the death of Steve Jobs in 2011 had a strange effect in me. I am not totally sure why I was so emotional. I mean it seems a little irrational. Or is it? maybe I’m supposed to react this way, maybe this is my intuition saying you finally need to do what you have been planning to do for so long and to dedicate your full attention on doing what you love, growing my business and helping so many all over the world.
What is your intuition telling you, that you are only listening to a little bit? Maybe you are listening but you are scared about where the money is going to come from, that you might fail, that it wont be everything you thought it would, that your friends and family will mock you.
Steve Jobs taught me something so powerful and strong today and I want you to know it too. When you get up tomorrow morning and you look yourself in the mirror. Look into your eyes and ask yourself. Are you going to be doing today, what you want and that makes you happy? If the answer is NO and it’s NO for the days and weeks after that, then something has to change.
How amazing would it be to look yourself in the mirror each day knowing that you are going to be doing something that makes you happy, that will fulfil your dreams; that will enrich your lifestyle in many ways?
Don’t live life with regret. I remember my graduation speech from the Dean of my school at University. It can’t have been that powerful because I can’t remember any of it…I only wish not only graduates but everyone everywhere with a dream could hear these amazing words from Steve Jobs that he presented in his commencement speech for the Graduates for Stanford University in 2005.
Please Watch This..It is 15 minutes that could change your life forever.

Hi Beth,
thank you for sharing this post and the inspiring video.
Steve Job seems to have lived what he is talking about and he has several gems of wisdom in his speech. what a legacy!
We never know why things happen the way they do, and I can see how the changes, even when they were not ‘wanted’, were part of where I am today.
I am now grateful for those changes.
Much appreciated!
Cheers

Hi Beth,
Inspiring, Empowering, Enlightening, Impactful, POWERFUL !!
Thanks for sharing this AMAZING piece of footage form a man with a great legacy and vision that will truly be missed.
This is a speech that can teach so many people such a valuable lesson.
We truly need to be thankful for every day that we have and we all deserve to live life to the fullest.
We should always DREAM BIG and do whatever we can to fulfill those dreams. Sometimes it takes a shocking event or a tragedy to get someone to realize how fragile life can be.
We all have to leave our mark by doing what we are passionate about and to be happy with who we see looking back at us in the mirror each day.
Keep inspiring us,
Marc

Hi Beth,
Thank you for sharing this incredible video of Steve Jobs presenting his speech to Stanford University in 2005. I loved all three of his stories. IF is a big word isn’t it? The entire speech was awesome but what struck me are a few of my favorite phrases of his speech:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards. You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. Believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even if it leads you off the well worn path. And that will make all the difference.”
“Sometimes life’s going to hit you with a brick. Don’t lose faith.”
“You’ve got to find what you love. The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking and don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart you’ll know when you find it. And just like any relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking. Don’t settle.”
“If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you most certainly be right.”
“Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”
He was a wise, innovative man. He was the ultimate entrepreneur. Steve Jobs will surely be missed.

Hi Raena,
Thank you for summerising the most poignant quotes from Steve’s speech. I am glad you got to enjoy the video as much as I did. If only all graduates could hear a speech like that one, what a difference the world would be if they took heed in the words and lived by them.

Touching post, Beth. I think using the event as a cause for reflection and improvement is exactly what Mr. Jobs would want us to do. He will certainly be missed but I am thankful that he left so much for us to learn from.
I’ve watched his speech at Stanford countless times this last week. I regret not having the chance to see it and appreciate it before he passed.

Thanks Beth, I can never watch that too many times. Its kind of scary to think he was only 56 years old. We don’t know how much time on this earth we have! We need to make the most of what we have, not just exist hating every minute of it!

I know…56 such a young age. He achieved so much. I loved his vision…he knew what the masses wanted even before they did, that is what made him unique…he wasn’t just an inventor to a problem…he created products we didnt even know we needed. To me that is Genius!

Hi Beth! This is definitely 15 minutes that can change a life. It all begins with the right mindset and attitude about what you have in front of you. I love how Steve talked about death and he mentioned something about when we die
Out of my entire life of listening to graduate speeches, THIS definitely tops it all! I’m sure he changed a LOT of lives with his speech, and we all know Steve continues to leave his legacy with the rest of us who are still here.
Thank you for sharing this very profound video Beth!

ps. Love his quote “If you live each day as if it were your last, someday you will most certainly be right.” WE have got to be grateful and appreciate every single thing that we have and learn how to create the things we don’t yet have in our lives.

Hi Beth… it’s so good to see you are active in TSA again!
I had that same sense of urgency when our son died. H was only 25, and had his whole life ahead of him. Or so we thought. It was a pretty strong reminder to us that we don’t know how long we have in this life. I wish I could say I’ve made each day count in the 22 months since we lost James. I can’t… but the time has been far more productively spent than most months prior to it.

Willena,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your son, I know we have spoke of it before, but everytime, I can’t understand how that would ever feel. I am glad you feel you have had a productive time in the last 22 months. Life certainly is very short and we have to make the most of it.
Thank you for stopping by,
Beth

I particularly like the 3rd part where he talked about death. And this part.. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
It says we need to live our own lives and burn our own trails and follow our plan and purpose. Ahhh.. There’s really a lot of lessons we can learn from Steve Jobs.

I loved that speech, it was inspiring and made me think, which I believe was the point. Steve Job made a true difference in the world, not with his products, not with his speeches, but with his personal ability to make people around him better. I hope that when people are reflecting on what I have done in my life, people could say the same about me.

Clint,
That would be wonderful wouldn’t it, if we could really make a dint 1% as small that Steve Jobs did.
And I believe that is entirely possible. After all we are all here for a reason.
