One of the hardest things for any blogger is creating content for their blog. This is difficult in the beginning because it is not always clear what your niche is or what they should be focusing on. I wanted to share a few ideas that will hopefully be more positive and less likely to have you give up before you even get started.
You don’t need to be a guru.
Many new bloggers think they need to know their subject matter in great detail before they can start to write content for their blog. I am here to say that this is not so. It is important to Remember that we all have something unique to offer and what is important; especially if you want to grow and nurture your blogging abilities, is to share what you know, how ever little and put you own spin on it.
The more you write the more you will become comfortable in your own writing style. It is also important to remember that you don’t need to write lots and lots. If you want to hold your readers attention, it’s a good idea to keep it short anyway or think about using other mediums like video, pictures, info-graphics and audio.
Whilst some bloggers may have a blog post in mind with a clear beginning, middle and end, it is OK to experiment. Start with a topic and just write, keeping it flowing until it comes to a logical end then create some attention grabbing title.
Listen, Read , Watch
The thing about great content is that it usually comes from some knowledge lodged somewhere in our minds, mixed with experience and a little bit of a personal spin on the topic. The reason great content doesn’t always flow, is because you aren’t keeping your mind and inspiration fresh. It is therefore really important to keep your eyes, ears and mind open to new ideas.
You can do this by spending a small percentage of your time reading new material, books, other blogs, listening to inspirational or personal development type audio or watching videos. There isn’t a magic formula but find the learning method that works best for you and start to absorb some new information and you will be able to create more and more great content.
If you would like to get inspiration from blogs and people just like you then I highly recommend the Tribe Syndication Association (TSA) you can find out more here
Blog Daily
This might seem like a really strange thing to say, but actually committing yourself to a blogging schedule will actually get you in to the habits of being a successful blogger. It will also help you develop your imagination and really build you leverage in terms of creating more traffic to your site.
Keep a look out for blogging challenges. They normally last for 30 days and are a great way to get you off to a good start. You will be surprised at how much you already know and the knowledge you have that you can blog about.
Where you can get more ideas
As well as reading other blog posts, videos on You Tube or a book or too, I also like to use some really cool sites that have all kinds of information, that you can browse. I especially like Alltop, Mashable and Problogger. But depending on your niche, do a search for some quality sites that are of interest and start creating some new content from what you find,
Let me know how you get on,

Great ideas about starting blogging. I have never gone to Alltop, Masable, or Problogger but I will follow your advise and get over there. With my posts I think that I take too much time researching it to come up with information so I haven’t been blogging everyday. I going to give myself a challenge for 2012 to post something everyday for 20 days.

Beth,
I find that most of my ideas for content come from either reading or conversations with others. It usually comes in the form of an “ah-ha” moment. I write the idea down immediately so I don’t forget then I get to work on it shortly after.

Beth,
this is a fantastic subject matter. Lots of people get this so mixed up that it hurts me personally.
It is so simple to write an article. You must only write about your passions. This is a subject with a lifetime of wisdom. What else would you gain knowledge daily on. What else do you know inside and out. Nothing compares with writing about your passions.
This is the samething your true business is all about. Sharing your passion globally and generating revenue from it. Showing others how to manifest their own passion and duplicate the process. This is everything summed up with having a supportive passionate team of people in every step of the way, priceless.
Beth, with only sharing your passions one would not have to think about any content. They would be face with my problem. Having the persistent patients with when to stop writing for that given day. Cut those subject matters on your passions short. Anything over 650 words is just too much. Add some pictures from google or your own files. You have an article published weekly.
Hey, join a group of dedicated people such as us, Beth. Like the best is TSA and you have the link on the side of your blog. Great advice Beth - especially about blogging regularly. I’m a writer by trade, and even I find that if I take a week off it is really hard to get back into the flow. Also I like the list of directories you recommended - I use them all, along with the CNN site. It’s huge and the news and articles are what’s happening right now. Thanks!

Great post, Beth! Another thing that I would recommend is to be open minded about your niche. Sometimes, you’ll think it’s one thing, but as you write, your comments and your passions will show you that it’s something else.

Hi Beth,
Creating content is somewhat easy for me because I absolutely love writing. I tried the blogging schedule but it was too stressful trying to keep up with it because I am often out on all-day appointments. Trying to create a post or creating email newsletters then becomes work. I have found that the more thought and attention I put into it, the better results I am then able to take out. I always seem to have my eye out for a new tool that can take a writing project from hours to minutes

Aloha Beth, wowww.. you really hit that on the head and simplified it so well. I know at times, I get blocked in what to right about and but when I do my mind do open up to the topic and I indulge it with some of my personal twist to it. By the way, I like that in your message as well. You have some great pointers on here and it gives others some ideas what to expect and what to do. In fact, I impressed so I will put this on my fb biz page. Mahalo, Lani

Hi Beth,
Very good tips about blogging. I do a lot of what your are describing here. Many times I do start writing with an idea, but don’t know exactly where I am going to go. Knowledge about what I write and practice do help me to always come out pretty much OK.
Reading can really help any writer, indeed! New or not so new.
This is a really good post-tips to learn how to start writing regularly on a blog for any new folks.

Hi Beth,
Great post . I’m wondering about writing blog posts every day. I used to do something like that but some of the people around me I just give each post a couple of days to let it ‘ferment’ and give it time to reach people. What do you think about that? I can definitely relate to the first tip, where the more you write the more you develop and feel comfortable with your own style. Only recently did I begin talking in the first person (using I) whereas earlier it would be just plain objective scientific information. I’m waiting to see how people continue to respond to my new style . Thanks for sharing and highlighting important points.

Hey Zena,
Nice to see you here. I agree it is good practice to let them naturally find your audience over a few days. But in the beginning to get some real traction, it is good to blog more frequently.
Thanks for your comment,

Hi Beth,
Great article. I think the biggest challenge to stay fresh is consistency. I may not be speaking for everyone, but I
believe for the most part, we are bloggers because we like to write, share, and help others. We are proud of our blogs. I don’t think most bloggers have a problem writing…the issue is reaching inspiration consistently. The ebb and flow of life has an effect on what information we post on our blogs.
When the inspiration comes, it is fantastic! However, when it doesn’t taking your suggestion to seek inspiration by reading, and visiting sites such as Alltop, Mashable, and Problogger. Blogging daily has been encouraged lately, as you know, and it works. The more quality content created using good optimization techniques will attract quality traffic. It isn’t easy to blog daily, but I agree with your recommendation.
Thanks for an excellent post!

Really good tips and advice Beth. I remember when I first started my blog how I didn’t enjoy writing because I wasn’t comfortable with what I was saying. Today, I have listened, watched and learned so I have built a wonderful and positive attitude towards writing.
It is also really important the business owners, marketers and entrepreneurs know that just writing blog posts is just the beginning. Visiting other blogs and writing good comments along with leaving your link is a great way to build connections and your visibility.
Over the years I have created a list of ‘favorite blogs’ that I will always revisit, read and leave comments. I believe this is one way to build your community just as we are doing with TSA.
I enjoy your blog because you always provide such good quality information that everyone can benefit from.
