What is Sponsored Tweets and how can you make money with twitter?
Sponsored Tweets is a Twitter advertising platform that connects advertisers with tweeters. In return tweeters receive payment for their tweets and advertisers get more eye balls on their products, services and company.
So how does it work?
Advertisers provide information on what it is they want tweeting and which tweeters they want to spread the word, based on a tweeters, number of followers, niche, country of residence, interests and more. Sponsored Tweets then sends advertisers a list of recommended tweeters, who will then send offers to the tweeters they want to offer opportunities.
If you’re a tweeter, Sponsored Tweets puts you in contact with advertisers who will compensate you with cash for the advertisements you tweet. You get to set the price, specify keywords tailored to your niche and interests and then wait for the opportunities to arrive.
You then get to accept or reject the offers. If you accept an offer your account will be credited within 24 hours and you can cash out when your account reaches $50.
Whilst all tweeters are incomplete control of their accounts, Sponsored Tweets prides itself on ensuring that there is an ethical and safe practice taken by all its tweeters. This is as much to protect you as it is the advertisers and readers. Sponsored Tweets as its own Code of Ethics which requires you to disclose the tweets you send out by simply adding the following to your tweets:
• Sponsored,
• My Sponsor,
• Sponsoring,
• Brought to you by,
• Advertisement,
• #ad,
• AD
Am I going to make a lot of money from Twitter?
Whilst you get to set your own price, it’s best to start low, to get those first opportunities rolling in. If you consistently get results for advertisers then you will become one of their favourites and get more offers. Whilst we are only talking a $1 at a time when you first start out, it all acts as extra pocket money and it easy to do. Sponsored Tweets offers a referral program which will significantly help you grow your pot.
They provide you with the links and badges to help you spread the word about Sponsored Tweets. And when you refer a new tweeter to Sponsored Tweets you will reciveve 10% of Sponsored Tweets portion of revenue for each successful transaction that Tweeter makes. And if you sign up an Advertiser you will receive 5% of Sponsored Tweets earnings for each transaction they make.
So it’s not going to make you a fortune but if you’re in the right place at the right time and a few advertisers sign up with you, it could make that difference between a hamburger or a steak! So if there are any advertisers out there who would like to sponsor me, hit the link below. If you are a tweeter after some extra pocket money hit the banner at the top of the page.
Will it Hurt My Personal Brand?
OK, so I have told you how it works. But my last bit of advice is this. Make sure you vet every offer you receive. Check out what the advertiser wants you to tweet and make sure you feel comfortable with what ever that is. If you think the product or service is shoddy then don’t tweet it out. It really is that simple. This is your reputation that you are putting out there every-time you tweet for an advertiser, so make sure you are sensible. Don’t just tweet for the money! Tweet with your personal brand in mind.

Hi Beth,
Really interesting post about Sponsored Tweets. I had heard about this but it is great to get the proper run down. For me, I am concerned that I am building a long-term brand and very cautious about what I promote but I can see the value for many internet marketers. Thanks for sharing.

Beth,
Thanks for sharing another interesting strategy for bring in a bit of extra cash. But as Clare and Lesly have said, for me I would not be comfortable promoting something that advertisers want me to promote. I am very careful what I choose to post because I am building a brand and a reputation. But for people with just a marketing or MLM focus, this could be a real gift.
Just keep sharing your wonderful tidbits about this online world.
Warmly,

Beth I know you’ve got a pretty strong twitter following and moderately high volume and have been using this for a bit now… so my question is how long did it take you to hit your first $50? Also were you able to see what your CTR on those links looked like?

Hello Kim,
You can see the click through rate on each tweet you send. Some advertisers will pay you per hit and others an out right fee. It took quite a while, so its definitely not an instant money maker, but I am getting maybe $5 a week at the minute and that is me being picky with the advertisers. So maybe 3 month ish?

Hi Beth,
I just found Sponsored Tweets a couple of weeks ago. I was hesitant at first because I didn’t want it to look spammy. I’m getting advertisers who pay 2 cents per tweet to over $2.00 per tweet. Like you mentioned, I’m not tweeting blindly though. I visit the site and decide if it was something I would normally tweet about. I also like that the site has a built in place for the tweet to show it as an ad, sponsored, brought to you by phrases. I’m happy to find out your ideas on it. So far, I’m very happy with Sponsored Tweets.
Happy Tweeting!

Hey Jennifer,
Yeah it is good to do your due diligence before tweeting. I am finding by being picky and only tweeting certain things I am slowly attracting offers from the advertisers I would prefer to sponsor me.

As a keen Tweeter, or Twit as I often say ;), I found this information really interesting. I’ve found Twitter to be a fabulous place to make contacts, new friends, business opportunities, have a giggle and learn new things. I’m a little sceptical of the advertising aspect you mention, but that’s probably because it’s new. I’m sure some felt the same way when Facebook started offering ads. I’m going to really study this new approach to Twitter though. Thank you for a very clear explanation and introducing me to a new idea.
Best wishes
Joanna

Hey Joanna,
It’s good to be weary, I do not recommend this as an all out strategy to make lots of money, but if you use it wisely and only promote those quality goods and services, it can only be an additional tool for your twitter arsenal.

This sounds interesting but for some of us really trying to build relationships on Twitter and Facebook I feel like my time is better spent interacting. With that being said, for many who want to make money now, it seems like a viable way to do it from the comfort of your home

Hey Yorinda,
If you mean how much time do I spend tweeting sponsored tweets, it is very little maybe once or twice a week. If you mean tweeting generally, I mostly use automated methods and respond to my tweets as and when.

Definitely, there is always new to learn every day. Until now, I though twitter was just only a friendly social network in which people may connect each other. I realize that there is much more. I can imagine myself making money with twitter in this way.
I assume I need a decent amount of followers to apply right? And a lot of time in-front of the computer. This is far away from passive incoming.
Either way it is a great idea if you are active person online. I should give a try.

Hi Daniel,
Obviously twitter is a great networking platform and you should definitely use it like this. You don’t need to spend much time in front of the pc at all, simply open an email, follow the link to the offer and send your tweet.
The more followers you have, the more offers you will get, Its not going to makes you loadsa, money but over a few months, it isn’t an amount to be sniffed at.

Great information Beth and I will definitely hang on to it. For right now I’m more focused on building trust and credibility with my small but growing community in prep for introducing my own products - which HOPEFULLY will start early next week. Good luck with this and I hope you’ll write a follow up to let us know how it works out for you.

Hi Beth,
Thanks for the information. This might be a good idea for some people, but not for the kind of people that I want to follow. And I would not want to tweet paid advertisements from my Twitter account.
Great to know what’s going on, though!

Interesting article Beth
I also have heard about Sponsored Tweets but haven’t looked into it because of the concern already voiced about the potential damage to branding. Sounds like a pretty ethical business though so certainly worth a look. Thanks!
