Whether you like it or not, the change is coming and Facebook has announced that the Facebook timeline will be rolled out to all 800 million users over the next few weeks. But don’t worry you will have 7 days to edit any information you don’t want out in the public domain once it is rolled out or from whenever you opt in to the new timeline prior to roll out.
If you haven’t yet opted to move to the timeline you will be notified at the top of your home page when it arrives on your account.
So what is Facebook Timeline anyway?
Well Facebook says its an easy way to rediscover the things you have shared. It is also an easy way to pin point those special times in your life like, when you were born, when you graduated from high school, got engaged, married and more.
The ‘Introducing the Facebook Timeline’ page walks you through the key features, this includes; your cover, your stories and your apps. When you first move over to Timeline your profile will be pre-populated with some of your top photos and stories and you are free to hide or highlight whatever you like.
Reassuringly only the people who you originally shared your content with can see what’s on your Facebook Timeline but you can also go back and change those settings if need be. Facebook has not stated when they will be rolling out the timeline for professional and business pages so you have some time before you have to sort that out too! (That’s if they do at all)
If you use your personal profile to build relationships for your business then there are some cool tips over at Copy Blogger in Andrea Vahl’s 4 Simple Steps to a Facebook Timeline that tells your marketing story. I would advise you to check it out. I have to say I haven’t done all I can with my Timeline yet. But being the ‘creative’ I am I can’t wait to design my front cover.

It was actually offered to me many moons ago and I have been using it and am pretty used to it now. One thing I like is as you browse new friends the site is more easy to figure out what they are about.

Hi Beth,
I have used Timeline during it testing phase so I am not surprised that about the full implementation of Timeline to every Facebook user.

I’ve been using the new timeline too since its testing phase. And although I didn’t quite like it initially, it grew on me. I still have to update some of my page elements though to make it more presentable!

Hi Beth, I like the new Facebook Timeline. At first, my knee jerk reaction was “Oh no…another learning curve!” But as all things change, so must we. Now that I’ve been using it, I like it very much.
Hey, thanks for the link of Facebook Timeline ideas. I just uploaded a picture of my flowers, but people seem to like it. I’ll get a little more fancy when I have the time.
Blessings,
Donna

Hi Beth,
I switched to the Facebook Timeline early during the testing period and I really like it. I think it looks better than the classic look (I’ve already labeled the older profiles classic…haha) and it is easy to navigate. I think it has enough flexibility to add and delete what you choose.
Recently I’ve heard it will be a mandatory, so it will be interesting to see how that unfolds. Great article. Informative and valuable as usual! Thanks!

Thanks Beth - I made the switch a couple of weeks ago and I’m really enjoying the new format. I hope they do something more dynamic with the pages soon they could use a formatting redo as well.
