Bringing something to the table!

Personal Development

Hi Everyone,

This post was born out of an action I ask people who sign up to my 10 day course to take.  I ask people to share any piece of knowledge they have which they think would be of value to someone else, (try to refrain from business opportunities).  Basically I want people to start feeling empowered and know that we all have something to bring to the table, however little or small your information is, GO FOR IT after reading the rest of this post, please share your knowledge by posting a reply to this post in the comments box. EASY!

Mark Twain once said “It is better to give then to receive - especially advice” But what does this actually mean?  When Mark Twain said this he would have been unaware of the possibilities of sharing that would come with social media, the internet and network marketing.  Many people starting out in their online business ask me how do I find great content, what should I tell my downline?…Or they tell me they have nothing to give!

EVERYONE has something to give…..OK some people say you can’t give what you haven’t got or experienced, this is true but we have all had experiences haven’t we?  I like most of you went to school and learnt about social interaction, I learnt what was wrong and right, I learnt how to read, write, I learnt about history and science, I learnt what I liked and disliked, I learnt what I like to wear, what music and movies I like.

I have always felt that it is important to push myself outside of my comfort zones just enough to learn something new and more importantly something new about me.  I haven’t experienced everything in life and therefore I haven’t got all the knowledge! But you might have experienced something that I have no idea about and therefore you MUST have something to give me.

The giving is about KNOWLEDGE….its not about money or material things or cars and houses….its about information and sharing wisdom and being that inspiration for someone else. What if you telling someone something could inspire them to do something wonderful, you telling someone how to do something, could help someone build their business and their dreams.  How POWERFUL would that be?

So yes I agree it is impossible to give what you haven’t experienced or received from someone else but unless you have been living under a rock for the last 20+ years have you really nothing to give.  It doesn’t even matter how big or small it is…Knowledge is FREE and that’s all that matters.

Anne Frank once said “No one ever became poor by giving” Think about that for a second….another women known for very different reasons called Shania Twain said “ Its important to give all you have while you have the chance.”  THIS IS YOUR CHANCE.

My tip for you today is to tell me something about you, comment on this page about literally anything at all.

It could be from the following list:
1.) Social Media Techniques
2.)Where you have seen great content
3.)A time when you were out of your comfort zone
4.)A compliment you were paid
5.) A talent that you have
6.) Other blog posts that have inspired you.

Go on I Challenge you,

There is so much knowledge inside of you, you just have to tap into it!

I look forward to learning from you

You know, my taking on the 30 day video challenge was for ME to move through some fears and grow, but my making it so public by posting each one on my blog was about knowing 2 things: 1. that my journey would likely inspire someone who thought they couldn’t do it and 2. that i knew that i had value to share.

EVERYONE has so much value to share….I look forward to learning from you in your dispelling myths of personal prosperity series and paying it forward!

    Hi Beth
A good challenging post. BTW, I’m not an English teacher but I think all MT was really doing was putting a humorous twist on a well known truism, so his saying actually loosely translates to: I’ll happily give you advice but I don’t want any back!

Anyways, back to your challenge: What can I share? How about a most inspiring message for 2010 and beyond from a remarkable guy called Brendon Burchard who turned his life around after surviving a terrible car accident. I was so totally moved by his 20-minute talk that I transcribed it all and wrote about him on my website here: http://www.thenobsinternetguy.com/good-stuff/new-year-inspiration-from-brendon-burchard/

I’ll confess to you, I’m one who doesn’t yet know how best I can help people. You’ve correctly pointed out that each of us has something worthwhile. Thanks for showing the way.

    Beth,
A great post and a great call to action!

I agree with you, giving is so important and we all have something to give. One of the things I enjoy giving is my time. I really enjoy working with others that are less fortunate. I like to travel to remote and poorly developed countries. When you travel there and bring yourself you bring you as a gift. Most of the time you have no idea what you’ll be giving when you get there and it can change several times while you’re there. Giving whatever it is you can offer to someone that doesn’t have what you have is so rewarding. For me, this is what I plan to do more frequently.

    Thanks for your post.

Great post. So much good stuff here it’s hard to know where to start. I like your point of how we should all draw on our experiences and that gives us all something to bring to the table.

I have recently been paid the compliment such that I believe that what I bring to the table is the ability to connect with people easily through my blog posts. My transparency has taken me out of my comfort zone, but if it helps others, I feel it is worth it.

Beth, you just seem to have an endless cornucopia of good ideas!

Knowledge, in my opinion, is the fundamental currency of life. It is the source of wealth, personal excellence, and spiritual growth. In fact, I think that the only reason we come to this planet is to deepen our knowledge about the processes of life.

By sharing knowledge with each other, we not only empower others but we also deepen our own understanding of what things mean and how they connect with other things.

Hey Beth! Great post, I love this idea. I think the thing I would share would be to always be yourself. My mom always said, “be yourself no one ca tell you are doing it wrong.” I am sure that is a quote from somewhere but I don’t know who said it. I think so many times people try to shape themselves to who they think people want them to be but you can never please everyone and if you do that you are doing yourself a disservice.

    Hey Beth,

One of the ways that I like to grow personally is through reading. I recently re-read an excellent book by John Maxwell called “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” which I recently mentioned on my blog.

Now I am reading, almost finished actually, another excellent book for those in the network marketing industry. The book is called “Beach Money” by Jordan Adler and I highly recommend if you haven’t picked it up yet.

Truly, the most valuable thing that I “bring to the table” is my time.

I want to help people succeed and to do that, along with knowledge, you need to have the time and patience to work with people who are at different levels. After all, we all started at the same place didn’t we, and thanks to the patience of my mentors I am in a position to return the favor for others just starting out in business.

Out of my comfort zone…well the first thing that comes to my mind is
when I took the Dale Carnegie Course. Public speaking is tough for most, and I was quite nervous. But I am so glad that I stretched myself because I grew and people voted for me to continue further into graduate assisting, which I did, and ended up graduate assisting approx 5 courses.
It is so neat, because not only did it reinforce what I learned from my course, but we could share this with others, and watch them grow, too!

    Dear Beth,

I found your post from Theuns’s blog. I really appreciated your reminder that we all have something to bring to the table. We all have gifts to share. A few years ago I started being able to channel the angels and have shared this knowledge in my Holistic Angel Coaching for clients and teaching others to practice Holistic Angel Coaching. One thing that the angels remind me of is that we all have gifts to share. We are each unique, beloved creations of Source and have come here to share those gifts. The angels remind me that our gifts can be found in our joy. Whatever makes us joyous is what we are meant to do. The happier we are, the more of a gift we are to the world. Thank you for sharing your gifts and inspiring others to do the same!

A time when I was out of your comfort zone…

I was asked to get up in front of a large group of friends in a church, and share my experience with something we were all facing. I had 30 minutes to prepare, and was feverishly making notes, when the one who made the request came up to me and said, “Don’t make notes! Just speak from your heart.”

    Oh my.

As I stood up there in front of the group my knees were jelly and I had to remind myself to exhale so I wouldn’t hyperventilate. I shared my experience in as few words as possible, then wobbled my way back to my seat.

Afterward, I was told, “You have a real gift for storytelling!”

That was a shock. I knew I could WRITE, but had no confidence in my ability to TELL a story. This has been reinforced by many in the years since that day. It was worth the pain, to discover a new talent that can be used to help others.
