A Challenge; quite simply is ‘a call or summons to engage in a competition or any contest’…Last night in between eating my supper and getting my daughter ready for bed, I had a conversation with the lovely Kimberly Castleberry.
She turned my attention to the 30 day content challenge that she had orchestrated. I was already aware of this challenge from the post I had read by Linda Grace Cox early in the day and had thought to myself that this certainly would be a wonderful challenge to do, if only I had the time.
Still this wouldn’t really be a challenge if there wasn’t the possibility of me failing and so with one hand full of optimism and the other with pure stupidity, I gracefully accepted the gauntlet that Kimberly had thrown in my direction.
I must profess I was tempted to simply duck and let the gauntlet fly pass straight over the top of my head or even more crazily let it hit me bang full in the face so as to knock me out for 30 days, so that I would have a genuine excuse why I had failed so miserably
But no…true to my word, I grasped the gauntlet with both hands (possibly slightly more with the stupidity hand!) and set about my challenge.
Accept the challenges, so you may feel the exhilaration of victory.
George S. Patton
And so I want to say a brief few words on why we should always at least consider the challenges that come our way and should more often than not accept them whenever we can.
Challenges are not supposed to be easy to achieve, they are supposed to help us grow, learn, accomplish, they allow us to cultivate our thoughts, minds, and values in life, but… and this is very important…. with any challenge, whether you accomplish it or not comes SUCCESS will always be present!
Now you are staring at my words right now, thinking how can there be a SUCCESS when a challenge has not been completed in its entirety.
Well…I will tell you… Every time we try something new, with grit and determination and with good intentions, we will ALWAYS create something POSITIVE… first of all, we will have learnt something new about our selves, we will have learnt how not to do something, we will have tried a method that didn’t work but we know not to use this method the next time round.
We have tried a new skill, we have tested out resolve, we have accomplished great things from just trying. Successful people will never give up, they may fail many times but they never quit, they will always succeed in the end.
“If we do not rise to the challenge of our unique capacity to shape our lives, to seek the kinds of growth that we find individually fulfilling, then we can have no security: we will live in a world of sham, in which our selves are determined by the will of others, in which we will be constantly buffeted and increasingly isolated by the changes round us.”
Nena O’Neill
Come and join me and the others in this Challenge…If you succeed, great if you don’t, well quite simply it’s still all good!
And as DR Bernice Johnson Reagon once said…
Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.

Beth,
I admire your spirit! I just am not willing to stretch myself to that point at this time. I have too many irons in the fire as it is. To take on this challenge would be irresponsible for me at the moment.
I appreciate the invitation though!
Best of luck to you!

Way to go, Beth! While my 30 day challenge was a video challenge, I did make each one in to a blog post. I was tested and pushed in ways I never imagined, and I also experienced times where I was on top of the world! The growth and accomplishment that came from the journey has been quite significant, and I definitely felt the exhilaration of victory at the end! Great quote!
Best of luck to you, you will rock this. I look forward to checking in and seeing how things are going!

Hummm, the previous comments are from last year so apparently this isn’t a new challenge but a repost. I would be great to know how you did! I think challenges are exciting and healthy – I try to challenge myself to at least one new thing each day.

Hi Beth, I am always intrigued and inspired by the word ‘challenge’, what it means to other people and how they respond. For you it certainly sounds like Challenge with a capital ‘C’.
Please come back and let us know the ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ and exactly what you did on your marathon … And especially the view from the top
Looking forward to it

Hi Beth,
A lovely sprinkling of quotes in there (I love quotes) and kudos to you for being willing to take on a challenge, I’m not sure exactly what it’ll entail but I’m sure it’ll be interesting – and hopefully fun.
Good luck!

Hi Beth,
good on you, for taking on this challenge.
The interpretation you provide for ‘challenge’ is very interesting and I appreciate that you took the time to share it.
One thing I am wondering about is – you said “it wouldn’t be a challenge without the possibility of failing” – what is failure? Is it not just a perception? Is the ‘stick’ needed to get going?
Could we be motivated by extending ourselves and knowing that we have done our best and are learning from the experience?
I like the way you did say at the end “If you succeed, great and if you don’t , well quite simply it is still all good.”
Thank you for sharing and all the best with your challenge.
Love and Light
