A Leap of Faith
Ever feel like you are going round in circles? Ever feel like you are putting something off, whilst you wait for that perfect time? Are you constantly coming up with excuses and reasons why you can’t do something, or that it is just not the right time?
If you feel this way about anything, whether it is in your personal life, your business, your relationship, then you are really not alone.
Maybe it is time to take a leap of faith. Of course be sensible, I am not advocating you should quit your day job, or pack your bags and up sticks and invest all your life savings in something. But really think about what it is you want or are trying to achieve and consider whether you are really going to be able to make it, doing what you do, day in day out.
You may have heard me say before, that when I am 81 I intend to go back packing and visit all those places that I haven’t managed to visit in my lifetime. I say that jokingly, but there is also a little part of me, that hopes with all my heart that when I reach 81, I will still have the determination and courage to try out new things in life.
Whoever you you are, however old or young, knowledgeable or not, scared or not, I encourage you to take a leap of faith and just go for your dreams. Don’t waste another second or be put of by some hypothetical barriers or ifs, buts and maybes.
Seize the opportunities that come your way and never be scared to take a leap of faith. Watch this inspirational short clip of an 90 year old grandma who does just that.

Lorri, that’s what I like to hear, not that your face is hurting but that it made you smile

Thank’s Lorri for going there with the face lift! It was an awesome showing for this 81 year old grandma to go out at her age and just take that leap of faith. I would consider myself to be fortunate at her age to be able to do something so bold as that!

So awesome. I cannot tell you how huge of a smile that just put on my face. My great aunt Katherine went skydiving at 85 and made the front page of our state newspaper! And while that is incredibly courageous, admirable and just plain kick **s, I say why wait? There’s no better time than NOW to take a leap of faith! I spent my 20′s as an adrenaline junkie ~ literally leaping out of planes, off cliff, bridges, etc. ~ and now in my 30′s get to translate that to leaps of faith in business, relationship, motherhood and life. All because life is about living to the fullest….with courage and passion…..so thanks for the shot of inspiration, Beth! Love it!

This is great encouragement! It’s my goal to make it to my 90th birthday so I think 81 would be a great age to go sky diving. I’ll have to do it on college break as that’s about the time I will be earning a degree in something delicious….haven’t decided yet what that will be. But thank your for this post. Awesome blog!

Wow. What a GREAT and inspiring video! I honestly don’t think I have the guts to do what she did, but I tip my hat to her. You’re right. Life should consist of those “leaps of faith” and learning from each lesson. Thank you for this post and sharing the video. Definitely put me in the mood for the weekend.

Thanks Alexis, I appreciate your comments. I agree I am not sure I would have the guts to do that…not just yet anyway. But I sure like to take my leaps of faith in other ways.

Great post Beth, and I think each of us could be accused of waiting for the “perfect time” to do something at some point or other in our lives. It’s one of the reasons I keep track of how I spend my time each day because at the end of the day if I haven’t spent most of my time in activities that will move my business forward, then I need to take a time out and refocus. At least this way I can usually catch myself pretty quickly.

What a great video of an older person who is continuing to push her limits. It reminds me of Jack LaLane (did I spell his name correctly?) He was always pushing his physical limits, no matter how old he was. Thanks for the reminder that, after responsible planning and due diligence, what’s left is taking the leap of faith.

Hello Beth,
Yes! All it takes is a leap of faith. I too want to reach the old age of 81 being healthy enough to enjoy my time, although perhaps I won’t be as adventurous! In the meantime, someone I loved dearly told me once that we should go out and live our life as fully as if each day was our last day on earth. I will never forget those word, may she rest in peace, wherever she is.
Keep the Smiles,
Stevie

That is so cool Beth! Very inspirational and a perfect video to really bring home your message and it’s a Good One! The only things in life we truly regret are the things that we didn’t do and tomorrow doesn’t always come so definitely an excellent reminder to us all. Plan for tomorrow, yes, but if we all lived each day with a leap of faith and just Did It! Man! Thanks, Laura

Hi Beth
What a great post.
You feel like me I want to become 120 + because
they say if we live healthy and stay in a positive
mind set we can make it , but it feel as if a need more time
to get to all my goals and dreams.
at-least I csn say that I am on the point to make one big dream
a reality.
Love the video thanks

Hey Beth,
Awesome video and a fantastic message!
Whether it’s in your personal life or in business taking a leap of faith every now and then is necessary for us to move forward, without these small or large occurrences we will fail to grow to our true potential.
Thanks for sharing Beth.

Hi Beth - There is such a great message for all of us in this post! We need to learn to seize the moment because unfortunately we never know what is around the corner! Thank you for the reminder and I hope you get to do all the things you want before you reach 81! LOL

Time is too short to think about our fears. However, I don’t think I could risk my life by jumping out of an airplane. I can barely stick my head out the window without having trouble breathing LOL. Thanks for sharing this video and letting me think about my life and what I’m doing.

Beth,
When she jumped out of the plane, I thought if it was me I would wet my pants, but she looked so peaceful and happy drifting down out of the sky and so pleased when she landed on the ground. At that point, I thought it would be exhilarating to jump. It would most undoubtedly take a leap of faith.
Thanks for the inspirational post!
Just do it!

Hello Beth, I love that video! There is a lady in my home town who has been a top producer in real estate for many years. On her 80th birthday, she celebrated by skydiving just like the lady in this video did. Five years later, at 85, she is still selling houses and living a very active and full life.
It pays to dream big and go for it!

Hi Beth,
Wow, I want to be that brave at that age!
One phrase that comes to mind whenever a leap of faith is needed is ‘suspend the disbelief’- our friend Frank Kern taught me that one!
Afterall, the first thing he did before taking his leap of faith is suspend his disbelief and may I say, it didn’t work out too badly for him!
Imagine if he hadn’t taken that leap, imagine if nobody did - doesn’t bare thinking about!!
All the best,
Emma

Thank you for this post and video! Taking chances is easier said than done but nonetheless good advice. Watching that woman take a “leap of faith” really inspired me because she seemed so excited and the smile on her face is contagious. Taking risks can be scary and dangerous, but if you have a good head on your shoulders then you will always be okay, even if you fall down sometimes… You’ll figure out how to get back up.

Hello Beth,70-
I came here just a tad bit late to view the video but your writing about being 81 and starting your “real” life, doing the things you would love to do is inspiring. Here in the US, the retirement age continues to go up and up. It used to be 65 and now it’s 70 something, (maybe 78), I am not sure. I don’t like the idea of working until I die.
That should be something reserved for Married Couples, not between employer and employee.
Thanks for the post,
Charles

What a great post. So many people don’t dare go try what they really love in life. I know I waited a long time before I dared to step out and try!! I did try a bunch of things I thought I would be successful at, but it wasn’t what I really wanted to do.
I hope, well I know when I’m 80 I will still want to try new things and pursue what I really love.
Thank You!!
Have a Great Day

Hi Beth
Great post and yes to be successful you have to take the opportunities that come your way. You have to be willing to make the effort and change your life for the better. You have to commit to do whatever it takes. You can then take a leap of faith and enjoy the ride.
